Optimal piezoelectric shunt dampers for non-deterministic substructure vibration control: estimation and parametric investigation

Abstract Piezoelectric (PZT) shunt damping is an effective method to dissipate energy from a vibrating structure; however, most of the applications focus on targeting specific modes for structures at low-frequency range, i.e. deterministic substructure (DS). To optimally attenuate high-frequency non-deterministic (Non-DS) using PZT damper, it found that impedance patch’s terminal needs be complex conjugate its inherent capacitance paralleled with ‘faced’ by host structure underline moment actuation. The latter was derived in terms estimation line mobility patch Non-DS plate integrating expression driving point infinite thin plate. This paper conducts parametric investigation study effect changing size, quantity and configuration performance optimal dampers dissipating structure. Results are shown reduction ratio when attached damper(s).
